THE SPACE BETWEEN - A MONUMENT TO THE DISPLACED

A MONUMENT DEDICATED TO THE MIGRANTS, REFUGES, AND DISENFRANCHISED PEOPLES WITHIN THE CURRENT GLOBAL MIGRATION CRISIS.

“THE-SPACE-BETWEEN” COMMENTS ON THE CURRENT AMERICAN POLITICAL MOVEMENT CHAMPIONING A SECURE AND POLICED SOUTHERN BORDER. THE ADMINISTRATION’S CONTENTIOUS POLICY DIVIDES THE AMERICAN PUBLIC INTO TWO PASSIONATE CAMPS. STUCK IN THE MIDDLE, ARE DESPERATE MIGRANTS MAKING INCREASINGLY DANGEROUS CROSSINGS. “THE-SPACE-BETWEEN” DEMONSTRATES THE SPACE INHABITED BY MIGRANTS, AN ISOLATED SPACE SPLICED BETWEEN TWO CHAIN LINK FENCES.

THE STRUCTURE AIMS TO FOSTER CONNECTION BETWEEN DISJOINTED COMMUNITIES. THIS WILL BECOME THE LOCATION FOR REUNIFICATION OF DIVIDED FAMILIES, WEDDING CEREMONIES, AND MUCH MORE. THE FABRIC COVERED STRUCTURE TRANSFORMS AN ISOLATED FISHBOWL INTO A PRIVATE DWELLING THAT BLENDS INTO ITS HARSH ENVIRONMENT. ASSIMILATING PHYSICALLY INTO AN OTHERWISE HOSTILE AND INCREASINGLY MILITARIZED ZONE PROVIDES A LITERAL LOOPHOLE WITHIN THE FENCE, WHERE PERHAPS GOOD FENCES CAN MAKE GOOD NEIGHBORS AFTER ALL.
